The multi-disciplinary committee submitted recommendations regarding custody relinquishment.
Recently, the Multi-System Youth Action Committee, a workgroup spearheaded by the Ohio Family and Children First Cabinet Council, submitted a report to the Ohio Legislature regarding custody relinquishment. This report fulfills a requirement of HB 166, which directed the Council to develop an action plan to end the practice of custody relinquishment.
The multi-disciplinary committee, which included representation from the Ohio Children’s Alliance, and working groups met over the course of three months to develop the recommendations enclosed in this action plan. In it, the committee:
Makes recommendations to modernize Family and Children First Councils
Provides guidance to re-establish its state-level program for multi-system youth
Creates an implementation plan for the Joint Legislative Committee on Multi-System Youth’s recommendations; and
Identifies legal and financial conditions contributing to custody relinquishment.
